South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison for the 2013 murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
He was immediately transported to a detention facility after the judgment was handed down. Pistorius was initially sentenced to five years in prison on manslaughter, but those charges were changed to murder after an appeal. Pistorius shot Steenkamp four times through a closed bathroom door. Pistorius has admitted shooting her.
