Timberlake Dethrones Drake Atop Billboard’s Hot 100

There was only one thing Drake ever wanted: a Billboard No. 1. In October, he wrote as much on Instagram: “No accolades really matter to me other than the fact that I have never had a billboard number one.” Finally, last week, with a placid chantey about his current needs—“One Dance”—he finally secured a No. 1 spot. Everything was perfect, for a fleeting moment, until Justin Timberlake came through and ruined his show.
[post_ad]On this week’s Hot 100, Timberlake scored his first-ever No. 1 debut with “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” from the movie Trolls, which has effectively trolled us all, including Drake. Last week, Drake got his first No. 1 song as a lead artist with “One Dance,” but the glory is short-lived as he’s been bumped to No. 2 (though the song’s video is still to come). JT, on the other hand, now has the sixth No. 1 song of his career — five as a solo artist and one for JT’s favorite meme generator, ‘N Sync’s “It’s Gonna Be Me.”

“Can’t Stop the Feeling” breaks another record for Justin Timberlake – it’s also only the 26th record in Billboard history to debut at #1 on the Hot 100. Not only that, it’s the highest-selling weekly sales for a song from Timberlake, upending the weekly sales for his 2013 hit with Jay Z, “Suit & Tie.” It seems the world was extremely ready for new music from Justin.
