Update! ASUU Releases Press Statement On Strike (Must Read)

As a result of the strike action declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) about two weeks ago over the non-implementation and demands of the Government, ‎Academic activities have been grounded at Ekiti State University, among others, resulting to students traveling back home after some weeks of resumption while students and parents are left unhappy with the decisions made by ASUU.

Ekiti State Government have now made matters worse by not having a peaceful negotiation with ASUU some days back. The Union came down low to negotiate with the government but were left scrambled by the Governor. This now leaves the possibility of the strike been called off on Monday to be very low.

The Union thereby declares that if their demands are not met by the government, the strike won’t be called off.

Speaking with Corporate Press, a lecturer noted that lecturers are been paid half salary since last year due to the fact that there have been deductions of Cooperative arrears and Pension Funds from their salaries without remitting the deducted amounts to the Cooperative and Pension Fund Administration respectively, and also the increment of tax by government which is not encouraging.

ASUU have now demanded that the government remits both Salary and Cooperative up to date (December), whereby the last payment for the Cooperative was April and Net Salary was in October. They also demanded the reversal of their tax funds and that the percentage of pension funds deducted from their salary should not be deducted any longer since the funds are not been remitted to the Pension Board.
