Voting Materials, PVCs, Burnt As Fire Engulfs INEC Office In Plateau

Tragedy as the office of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Quan’pan Local Government Area of Plateau State has reportedly engulfed by fire, burning uncollected PVCs, newly printed manual and electronic voters register.

In a development from Todayng, the inferno was confirmed in a press release by the Head of Voters Education in the state, Mr. Osaratin Imahiyereobo, on Sunday saying the fire incident has brought a setback to the conduct of the forthcoming February 16 presidential election.

According to his statement: “The INEC office in Qua’an Pan has been engulfed by fire causing a setback for the preparations for the general elections in the Local Government Area,”

Adding that: “The office is completely burnt with all its content, that is: ballot boxes, generators serviced and filled with fuel, cubicules, newly printed electronic and manual voters register, uncollected PVCs, materials for the preparations of RAC and other materials yet to be identified.”

In reaction to the incident, electoral official said the fire outbreak, the cause of which was not clearly stated, was due to a drunken security man.

However, management team from INEC headquarters Jos, led by the Administrative Secretary, Gbadamasi Rasheed, has been reportedly dispatched to investigate the situation.
