Back in the days when Burna Boy started, many failed to appreciate his sound, underrating and undervaluing his potential. Today many artistes face similar experience. Here is a list of the top 10 underrated artistes in Nigeria.
The duo DNA, has since joining Mavin Records (arguably the biggest indigenous label in Africa), released several songs and videos and yet failed to stand tall in the industry. With less than 100k followers across all social media networks, they seem to be the most underated artist on this list. One could have thought DNA should be on top of their game replacing the famous estranged okoye twins (Psquare) and being one of Africa’s biggest group.
L.A.X is almost phenomenal with everything he does. The former Starboy Entertainment act who recently flagged his own label Rasaki Records has since his career launch been undervalued by fans of Nigerian music. Despite recording several collaborations and dropping a poorly received debut album, LA.X makes it into the list of the Top 10 underrated artistes in Nigeria 2019.
After penetrating the music scene in 2017 with “Amen” his record hit single, Uber talented singer, Yovi has failed to capture the hearts of many with his music. The talented youngster has collaborated with Wizkid and Davido arguably Africa’s best artistes and yet failed to sell his sound to the general public. He occupies the No.3 position
Since after winning the Big Brother Naija Season 2 edition, Efe has battled between rapping and singing, endured rejection and abuses by fans and haters. Despite all that, the ever resilient performer has dropped several lovely tunes that never buzzed up, like “Far Away” , “Warri ft Olamide” and the recent “Scammer ft Tulenkey. Even with his switch from hip pop to afrobeat, Efe is still underrated even as he tries to prove his worth to doubters.
Starboy Entertainment’s signee Terri, has failed to win the hearts of music fans across the continent. With his epic performance on ” Soco” Starboy’s debut single, one expected Terri to be the youngster everyone will want to associate with. He has dropped several singles and visuals and yet failed to capture the hearts of Nigerians as did his boss, Wizkid in the early days of his career.
“the money wey we get oh, e no dey finish, amen…” Soft , the money crooner even without a body of work, has been on and off the front row in artist ranking. The Dagogo records singer who doubles as a dancer has been undervalued by many despite recording collaborations with Davido and Wizkid. With “Money”, ” Imagine” , “Bently Benz & Gucci” and Tatoo”, Soft with his immense talent and vibes hasn’t lived up to his full potential as he is still underrated by several Nigerian music lovers.
Zoro, the 26 year old Igbo indigenous rapper, who graced the music scene in 2016 following his hit single “Ogene” featuring Flavour has been unlucky with his subsequent releases. The rapper has been operating behind the shadows of Phyno and hasn’t been given enough chance by lovers of Igbo Indigenous Rap music to prove his worth. Zoro stands at No.7 most underrated Artistes In Nigeria 2019.
With “Nobody Fine Pass You” a single which dominated ITunes Top 100 chart Nigeria for over 15 weeks, Tclassic should be a house hold name by now but that hasn’t been the case. The MixNaija lead act has one of the biggest records out there with many vibing to his sounds without know the artiste.
9. Johnny Drille
Johnny is special, but why most people has failed to appreciate his sound is something mysterious. Johnny Drille is one of the few artistes who has kept to their path despite signing for one of Africans most celebrated indigenous record label Mavin Records. The Country and Soul music act is like a rat in the midst of Goats. The Nigerian music scene has grown addiction to commercial afrobeat and dancehall to the extent they fail to value the rare talent Johnny Drills posses. He should be occupying the whole lists as he’s probably the most underrated artiste in Nigeria 2019.
10. Sean Tizzle
Sean Tizzle is a fusion of Burna boy, Wizkid, Davido and any other top artist in the continent. His vibes are evergreen and addictive. After bagging the headies award of the Next Rated Category ahead of Burna Boy, Phyno and Seyi Shay in 2013, the sensational act has stumbled in his journey as his sound has been vehemently undervalued by many.
