See How Headies Awards 2019 Organizers Sold Next Rated to Rema [A Must Read]

• On 19th October 2019, Rema was crowned the Headies Award 2019 Next Rated

• Rema defeated Zlatan Ibile, Lyta, Victor AD , Fireboy DML and Joeboy to claim the Award

• Here is a few reasons why Rema shouldn’t have won the award.

After Rema won the award, a series of arguments were initiated online. Several people believed something was wrong with Rema claiming the award. Though I saw nothing wrong in the award presentation, I disagreed with the nominations.

Rema has done so much in a short while, no doubt. Nigeria will forever celebrate his appearance on President Obama’s Summer Playlist. That was a huge one for the popstar. Rema went on to score awesome numbers with his record three projects in eight months. The mavin records act is probably the hottest teenage act in Africa at the moment.

With all these amazing numbers, Rema still shouldn’t have made the Headies Next Rated Award nominee list.

Here are few reasons why I believe Headies Award organizers either mistakenly nominated Rema for Next Rated or deliberately sold the award to Mavin records boss Don Jazzy as opined by many.

1. Headies Award 2019 Calendar

Headies Award 2019 was judged on an eighteen months calendar (from January 2018 – June 2019). Rema began his professional career in March 2019, meaning he had only four months of his career in the Headies Award 2019 calendar. No pupil misses continuous assessment and ends on top of class.

2. Wrong Judgement of Rema’s performance

According to Headies Award organizers, Next Rated Category is a voting category for the most promising act in the year under review. With this, I believe you see why the first point was important to highlight. Rema couldn’t have been one of the most promising act under the year under review.

3. Wrong Nomination List

Rema deserved a rookie of the year nomination instead? Well the organizers made us to believe that Rookie is voting category for the rookie of the year who has had a successful year musically, with the absence of an album in the year under review. Though the first point might go against the mavin records act here too, it would have been the most deserving category to nominate the teenage star.
