Everton give latest update on Andre Gomes horrific injury

Everton football club have confirmed that midfielder, Andre Gomes will undergo surgery on a fracture-dislocation to his right ankle.

Following a challenge by Tottenham’s Son Heung-min during both side’s 1-1 Premier League draw at Goodison Park on Sunday Andre Gomes suffered a horrific leg injury in which Gomes was immediately taken to hospital in an ambulance, after being treated on the pitch during the game.

Referee Martin Atkinson originally handed Son a yellow card, but quickly upgraded his decision to a red card, after seeing the extent of the damage to Gomes.

According to a statement on their official website on Sunday night, Everton posted: “Everton Football Club can confirm Andre Gomes will undergo surgery tomorrow (Monday, November 4) after sustaining an ankle injury in today’s game with Tottenham Hotspur.

“The Portugal international was stretchered from the pitch during the second half of the game and taken straight to Aintree Hospital by ambulance accompanied by members of the Everton medical team.

“After undergoing hospital tests, it was confirmed he had suffered a fracture-dislocation to his right ankle.

“The club will provide further updates in due course.”
