Psquare and Davido dominates top 10 YouTube views for the decade

Nigerian Afrobeat music beat a global product during the last decade and with wave came the rise of a lot of talented artists. Some artists began the decade as rising stars but disappeared into thin air while others like Davido, Wizkid, Olamide, 2Baba, the defunct Psquare gave us back to back hits and are setting the pace. The decade saw the split of Psquare, Mo’hits records, death of Da Grin and the emergence of new artist and new record labels.

Here is a list of top 10 Nigerian songs with the highest YouTube views for the decade.

10. Mr Eazi – Leg Over 60 million views

“Leg over” was released on December 2nd 2016 and was the lead single of Mr Eazi’s mixtape “Life is Eazi”. The track has a mixture of Ghanaian and Nigerian beats.

9. Fia – Davido 71 Million views

Fia was released on November 10, 2017. It was produced by Fresh VDM. Davido used a verse to address rumour being fuelled by Caroline Danjuma surrounding Tagbo Umenike death.

8. Psquare – Collabo 75 Million views

“Collabo” was one of the most popular songs of Psquare’s sixth studio album “Double Trouble” which featured Don’t Jazzy and was produced by Oscar Herman-Ackah.

7. Psquare – “Bank alert” 75 Million views

“Bank alert” was released for download on 15 September 2016. It was among the last hits released by the duo before their split in 2017. Bank alert sampled lyrics from “Iyogo” a song from the legendary Onyeka Onwenu.

6. Burna boy – “On the low” 85 Million views

Burna boy has been the artist on the lips of everyone since his reemergence in mid 2018. “On the low” was released on November 16, 2018 and was included on Burna boy’s fourth studio album African giant which released on July 26, 2019.

5. Psquare – “Personally” 95 Million views

“Personally” was released as the second single from the “Double Trouble” album. It was directed by Jude Okoye and Clarence Peters. It was nominated for MTV Africa Music Awards 2014 Song of the Year and 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards for Best Music Video of the Year.

4. Runtown – “Mad over you” 96 Million views

“Mad over you” was released on November 4, 2016 and was primarily produced by Del B. It was well received as it has an underlying Ghanaian and Nigerian flavour. “Mad over you” was nominated for Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at The Headies 2018

3. Davido – “If” 98 Million views

Davido is now one of the most talked about artist in Africa. He has released back to back hits throughout this decade. “If” was the song that fully projected Davido on the global social media space followed by “Fall”. “If” was released on February 17, 2017 and was produced by Tekno who also ghost wrote it. “If” eon the Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at The Headies 2018. 

2. Yemi Alade – “Johnny” 111 Million views

“Johnny” was released on October 14, 2013 as a single in Yemi Alade’s debut studio album “King of Queens”. The song became a global hit across all continents. “Johnny” was nominated for the Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at The Headies 2014. The hit single was produced by Selebobo.

1. Davido – Fall 154 Million views

Davido has experienced great success this decade. “Fall” is a song released as the second single in Davido’s second studio album “A Good Time” (2019). “Fall” was released on June 2, 2017, produced by Kiddominant. In February 2019, it became the longest charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history. The video had set a record of 100 million views on December, 2018 as the most viewed video by a Nigerian artist on YouTube.
