In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a complex series of procedures used to help with fertility or prevent genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child. During IVF , mature eggs are collected (retrieved) from ovaries and fertilized by sperm.

Wasium made it known that the IVF and embryo transfer were done at another facility outside the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. The woman was referred to LUTH at early gestation ( the period or process of developing inside the womb between conception and birth) till she delivered.

The woman became the first to have undergone such a process in LUTH, Nigeria and Africa according to Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo as he claimed both the mother and children were in good and stable condition.
