COVID-19: 2,600 Inmates Set To Be Released Nation Wide On Buhari’s Order!!

Over 26,000 inmates are set to be released as President Buhari approved their release as part of efforts to decongest the correction centres nation wide to halt any possible spread of the Coronavirus in the country. The statement that was disclosed by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola in a press conference at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Abuja.

He said: “These include 885 convicts who could not pay their fines which is in total of N21.4 million. The government will pay on their behalf to enable them get their freedom. From this number, 41 inmates are federal convicts, two of which have been granted pardon.” He also said five ex-convicts recommended for presidential pardon had been so pardoned. “They are late Prof. Ambrose Ali, Late Chief Anthony Enahoro, Ex Lt. Col. Moses Effiong, Major E.J. Olanrewaju and Ajayi Olusola Babalola.”
