COVID-19: Bishop Celebrates Palm Sunday In An Empty Church Due To Strict COVID-19 Measures

Bishop Alexander Ibezim celebrated 2020 Palm Sunday Service in an empty church with no congregation. The Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Akwa district, said services was live on radio, television , Facebook and other social media platforms.

This was in compliance with the directive of the federal government banning all public gatherings including, wedding, burial activities and among others as part of the effort to contain the possible spread of the Coronavirus in the country.

Bishop Alexander praised members of the Anglican community in the state for heeding to the directives of the government and celebrating the Sunday service through the church’s YouTube platform and other social media platforms. Bishop Alexander prayed for Christians all over the world and urged them to pray for God to deliver the world from depression, humanitarian disaster, Coronavirus pandemic and every other unknown fear coming to the world.

Bishop Alexander who spoke to newsmen said “Church members are admonished to take advantage of the various online links and other social media platforms to join His Grace during the services from their homes”. The Anglican church is not the only church practicing the sit at home service as other churches across the country are also following in such trend in other to curb the spread of the Coronavirus nationwide.
