Federal Government To Commence Distribution of 70,000 Metric Tons of Food

President Muhammadu Buhari has granted approval to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to release 70,000 Metric Tons of assorted food items from the National Strategic Food Reserve stock according to Nigerian Tribune. Following the lockdown across some states and its effect on the citizens.

Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said the 70,000 Metric Tons and 5000 Metric Tons of garri is ready and available for immediate release. Sabo made it known that bagging of the food grains is ongoing through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for urgent release.

According to the Minister, the food items would be sourced from silos across the nation which are Niger Silo, Lafia Silo, Minna Silo, Dustin-ma Silo, Yola Silo, Osun Silo, Gusau Silo, Zamfara Silo, Adamawa Silo, Katsina Sil. Nassarawa would bring 5000MT of Millet and 1500MT of gari, Niger is expected to contribute 10,000MT of Maize and 2,500MT of garri and so on.

The Minister assured newsmen that measures will be put in place by the Presidential Task Force to make sure the supplies get to the actual beneficiaries.
