The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians on the circulation of fake chloroquine drugs in the country.
Professor Mojisola Adeyeye the Director General (D.G) of NAFDAC said the agency was notified on the circulation of the fake drug by the World Health Organization in Cameroon.NAFDAC has strengthened its surveillance in all ports of entry to prevent illegal importation of the drug. The chloroquine drug that was manufactured by Jiangsu pharmaceutical Inc in China carries a fake NAFDAC number of 028060.
The Director General of NAFDAC has warned all importers, wholesalers and retailers to desist from selling or importing the fake chloroquine drug to Nigeria. Also she notified the citizens that another company is also carrying out the same evil and ugly act.
“The Astral pharmaceuticals, New Bhupalpura, China is labelled with fake NAFDAC registration No. 0587612 and advised the general public to be aware of this drug”. Mojisola said (NAFDAC – Director General)
Nigerians should be careful when it comes to drugs as we are known to abuse drugs when ever the opportunity presents itself.
