Professor Wole Soyinka has told the Nigerian Government that the country is not in a “war emergency “. This is coming after the 14-day mandatory lockdown of various state in the country to curb and contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement signed on Wednesday, Garbage Shehu, a media aide to the president has told Nigerians not to take the words of the Nobel writer seriously as the lockdown is only for the interest of the country.
Garba urged Nigerians to trust Science and not fiction. Soyinka is not a medical professor but an English Literature Professor who has won prizes for writing books and plays.
He said, “Wole Soyinka may write a play on the pandemic after the emergency is over but in the meantime, we must trust words from our doctors and scientists “.
According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) Nigeria keeps recording cases on a daily basis so a lockdown should be our main means of containing the spreading process.
