FG is yet to pay lecturers in seven varsities – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has said that lecturers in seven federal universities are yet to be paid their February and March 2020 salaries by the federal government.

Although there have been a directive by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to clear the withheld salaries, ASUU says some of its members has not yet received their pay.

The ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, stated this in an exclusive interview with Punch. He identified the affected universities as the University of Jos, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; Federal University, Dutse; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; University of Maiduguri; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; and the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

Ogunyemi said, “When we talked about the inconsistency in the IPPIS, it also means that lecturers in seven federal universities were not paid their salaries and they are not happy about it. This was confirmed by our members.

“The universities are the University of Jos; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; Federal University, Dutse; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; University of Maiduguri; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; and the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.”
