Hushpuppi Denied Bail In The US, Here Is The Story Behind His Failed Bail Attempt

Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi was denied and was told by a judge in Chicago that he will remain detained until his trail later this year.

Hushpuppi who is a Nigerian citizen was arrested over a month ago in Dubai, over allegation of internet scam, money laundering and other incriminating charges. According to his lawyer, Gal Pissetzky, who insisted that his client (Hushpuppi) is a legitimate business man, as his job as an Instagram personality paid for his $10,000 monthly rent on his luxury Dubai flat.

Gal Pissetzky, had applied for him to leave jail with an electronic tag (an electronic tag is a tag that allows the police to monitor your movement from their office) and live with his baby mother’s uncle but was opposed by the US prosecutors on grounds of being a flight risk.

It was reported by the UAE’s that, Hushpuppi could commit crime just with a smartphone and an internet connection at his disposal.

“Anywhere he goes, people will know. Having grown up very poor in Nigeria, Mr Abbas is now paid to pose with high-priced items such as Louis Vuitton bags that people would buy after seeing his post on Instagram. He is an influencer and it’s his full time job.” Pissetzky said.

In my own opinion, if he was really a brand ambassador, why haven’t they voiced out? As at filling this report, no brand has said anything of Hushpuppi being their ambassador or a promoter. What do you think about the statement from Hushpuppis lawyer? Is he only looking for a light sentence or just doing what lawyers know how to do best?
