Olumide Akpata Has Been Declared New NBA President.

Nigerian Lawyer, Olumide Akpata, has been declared the President-Elect of the Nigerian Bar Association.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NBA, Tawo Tawo (SAN), who made the declaration around 12:52am on Friday says, Akpata scored the highest number of votes cast and satisfied the provisions of the NBA constitution.

The election which was conducted via electronic voting began at 11pm on Wednesday and ended by 11pm on Thursday.

Akpata scored 9,891 votes out of a total of 18,256 voters who participated in the elections, representing 54.3% of the votes.

He defeated Dr. Babatunde Ajibade (SAN) who scored 4,328 and Dele Adesina (SAN) who scored 3,982.

The Edo-born, Lagos-based, Warri lawyer, took to his Twitter page on Friday morning to show gratitude for the support he received during the election.

He wrote,

Yesterday, we made history and today, I want to thank each and everyone of you who supported me and who was part of this process. I want to salute my entire team who worked tirelessly to make this a reality, sacrificing precious time to deliver our mandate.

I also want to thank all lawyers for their massive support. The Nigerian Bar Association @NigBarAssoc will work for each and every one of its members and will work for the society too. Indeed, we will make the Bar work for all!
