WAEC: Parents Ready To Meet FG Over School Resumption

A contradicting situation occurred over the week as the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, proclaimed that students nationwide would not be allowed to sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination slated for August 4, 2020.

Last week Monday, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, had announced that the 2020 WASSCE conducted by WAEC would run from August 4 to September 5, 2020. A counter statement was later issued by the Minister of Education on Wednesday saying all federal schools still remain closed and he also advised State Government that had announced any form of resumption or plans to resume to rescind such.

The National Parents Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has said it is confused on the both statement made by the Minister of State and the Minister of Education concerning the resumption of school.

Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, the president of NAPTAN has said the association is ready to meet with the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, as they seek for a common ground towards the reopening of schools.

“NAPTAN, we are planning to go to the ministry and meet with the minister or his representatives to hear from them. It should be on Monday, as we are ready to work together with schools to put measures in place to minimize the risks of virus contraction by the pupils.” Alhaji Haruna said.

This is a welcomed development, but how many schools in Nigeria can boldly say, they can adhere or really provide these safety measures. Carrying out the safety measure for a week can be achievable, but throughout the examination is another thing.
