Man City attacker Kevin De Bruyne named Premier League Player of the Year

Manchester City attacker Kevin de Bruyne has been named Premier League Player of the Year.

De Bruyne was voted for by the fans ahead of Liverpool’s title-winning heroes.

Reds skipper Jordan Henderson won the Football Writers Player of the Season award and was hotly-tipped to win this honour too.

Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope was a shock nominee for Premier League Player of the Season with champions Liverpool dominating seven-man shortlist.

Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were all nominated following the Reds’ impressive campaign with De Bruyne the only inclusion from Manchester City.

Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy and runner-up Danny Ings were the other two names on the shortlist.

But the leading playmaker of the campaign was City’s De Bruyne who created 20 goals, equalling the record set by Thierry Henry in the 2002-2003 season.
