Desmond Elliot will forever remember today, as the Nollywood actor and Lagos State House of Assembly member representing Surulere constituency 1, trended on Twitter for the wrong reasons as footage of him went viral seeking the Federal Government to limit the use of social media in Nigerian, something he tagged “A Ticking Bomb”.
According to Desmond Elliot, he said Nigeria will no longer exist if there is no proper check on social media. He called on social media influencers and celebrities to mind what they put out for their audience, using the Lekki toll gate #EndSARS peaceful protest as his perfect example, where he said so many false information’s where passed to Nigerians.
Nigerians on various social media platform didn’t really take sides with the actor, as he was called and dragged by a handful of Nigerians, celebrities inclusive. In the heat of the moment, Nollywood actress and colleague of Desmond, Rita Dominic took to her official social media account to advise Nigerians to get their PVC ready as that is the only way to get true democracy.
“You can be educated yet not enlightened. Majority of those we vote into office are obviously not the latter. Get your PVC out. Stop staying home during elections. We must remove people who do not believe in the democratic process.” Rita Dominic wrote.
