NCC Stops Registration And Sales Of New SIM Cards, Check out Their Reason

The Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC, has directed telecommunication companies in the country to suspend all sales, registration and activation of Subscriber Identity Module, also known as SIM card.

In a statement that was made by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim, the minister said the reason for the suspension, is to enable the NCC to embark on another audit of the subscriber Registration Database.

“Accordingly, Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are hereby directed to immediately suspend the sale, registration and activation of new SIM Card until the audit exercise is concluded, and Government has conveyed the new direction.” Dr. Isa Ali said.

The minister also warned MNOs, that any form of disobedient from their path, will be met with strict sanctions and a possible withdrawal of their license to operate in the country, as exemption may be granted through writing by the NCC when necessary.
