It’s Official! Wayne Rooney Now Derby County’s Head Coach.

Former England midfielder, Wayne Rooney is now officially a football manager after being hired by Derby County on a permanent basis.

Derby confirmed the 35-year-old former Manchester United and England forward had agreed a permanent deal until 2023, having succeeded Phillip Cocu on an interim basis in November.

Rooney was the Rams interim manager since Phillip Cocu’s sacking in November. He joined Derby last January – joining on an 18-month deal as a player-coach.

And as a direct result of the appointment, Rooney has announced his decision to retire from playing with immediate effect to concentrate solely on the role.

Rooney’s retirement from playing brings down the curtain on an illustrious career in which he became record goalscorer for the England national team and won every conceivable honour with Manchester United.
