“I would have died if I had stayed in my marriage” – veteran singer Onyeka Onwenu opens up. (VIDEO)

Onyeka Onwenu, a veteran singer and actor, has spoken up about her challenges as a young married woman.

In an interview with media personality Kikilomo Atanda-Owo, Onwenu stated that while she did not want her marriage to end, staying would have killed her.

She said that her marriage had been difficult for her and her children.

“I went through my marriage; it was painful because I didn’t want it to end, but I couldn’t handle it any longer; it would have killed me,” she stated.

“I usually say this, and it’s true. It was not ideal for the children to grow up in an environment where the mother was miserable and carrying the entire family’s burden.”

Onyeka Onwenu, whose estranged spouse had remained a mystery for years, is said to have married a Yoruba Muslim in 1984 and had two children with him.
