Although Roman Abramovich had a huge impact on English football when he bought Chelsea in 2003, his era looks set to be coming to an end at Chelsea after news that he might be selling the club.

Abramovich’s ownership of the club in 2003 helped turn them into a major force in the transfer market, and changing their fortunes with a host of big-name signings and managerial appointments in nearly 20 years at Stamford Bridge.

10. Ricardo Carvalho.

Ricardo Carvalho happens to be one of the plenty of top defenders to play for Chelsea in the Abramovich era. The Portuguese centre-back helped make them the meanest back line in Premier League history with just 15 goals conceded in that 2004/05 title win.

9. Jorginho.

The Italy international midfielder has been a part of some huge success to Chelsea football club and will also always be fondly remembered for his cheeky penalty kicks. He is probably one of the best signings made by Roman Abramovich.

8. Arjen Robben.

Arjen Robben added world class flair and goal-scoring ability to Chelsea’s attack, giving them that much-needed X-factor as they secured their first Premier League title victory in 2004/05. Even though he ended up enjoying his peak years elsewhere, he can still be regarded as one of the first real statement signings of the Abramovich era.

7. Branislav Ivanovic.

The Serbian star was a rock-solid defender at right-back, and also had the knack of getting forward to score plenty of goals, including one or two in some very important games, most notably his late winner in the 2013 Europa League final.

Azpilicueta has won the lot as a Chelsea player, filling in in almost any position he’s asked, and showing great leadership. He can be regarded as one of Abramovich best signings at chelsea.

4. N’Golo Kante

N’Golo Kante is sure to go down as one of the best modern-day Premier League midfielders. After his success at Leicester City, he made the move to Chelsea and immediately played a starring role in their 2016/17 title success, being named Player of the Year.

He’s since been a huge part of their success under Thomas Tuchel as well, with few in world football able to match his work rate and superbly intelligent defending in front of the back four.

3. Petr Cech

Petr Cech instantly transformed Chelsea when he joined in the summer of 2004, becoming number one ahead of the more experienced Carlo Cudicini. The Czech shot-stopper ended up playing nearly 500 games for the Blues and can be regarded as one of Abramovich’s best signings.

2. Eden Hazard.

Eden Hazard is another inspired Abramovich signing who will go down as one of the best to ever play for the club. The Belgian maestro was instrumental to Chelsea’s title wins in 2014/15 and 2016/17.

1. Didier Drogba.

Drogba proved himself to be the ultimate big game player, always tormenting rivals in cup finals and putting in a memorable display in that Champions League triumph over Bayern Munich in 2012, scoring the equaliser to force extra time and then netting the winning penalty.

Drogba was a big game player without whom the best moments of the Abramovich era wouldn’t have been possible.
