The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026. Surprisingly, the list does not include representatives from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the Labour Party (LP).
According to Musa Olurode, INEC’s public relations officer in Osun, candidates from 14 political parties have been cleared to contest in the election. The absence of the PDP and LP, two major political forces in the country, has already sparked speculation and discussion among voters and political analysts about how the race might unfold.
With the final list now official, attention shifts to the campaigns, voter engagement, and the strategies that smaller parties will adopt to make their mark. The August election promises to be closely watched, especially given the notable absences and the opportunity it presents for other parties to gain ground in the state.
