Nigerian Army Brigade Commander Killed in Terrorist Attack in Borno

Brigadier-General O. O. Braimah, a Nigerian Army Brigade Commander of the Joint Task Force in Borno State, was reportedly killed by suspected ISWAP terrorists during a midnight attack in Benesheikh, Kaga Local Government Area.

Security expert Brant Philip confirmed the attack, noting that large fires were seen in the camp and that Brig.-Gen. Braimah was killed, making him the highest-ranking officer lost since Brig.-Gen. Uba’s ambush in late 2025 in Borno.

Local reports indicate that civilians, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), other security operatives, and several insurgents were also killed during coordinated attacks in Benesheikh and Pulka in Gwoza Local Government Area.

Residents expressed shock and sorrow, with Malam Lawal Benesheikh posting on Facebook:

“Innalillahi wa Inna’illaihin raji’un. Boko Haram has again, unfortunately, succeeded in eliminating the commanding officer of Benesheikh. This unfortunate incident occurred yesterday night when the insurgents stormed the military formation in large numbers. May the souls of the fallen heroes rest in peace.”

The attack has heightened concerns over security in northeast Nigeria, where insurgent activity continues to threaten both military personnel and civilians.
