The war is over, I have nothing to forgive: Soyinka speaks on his relationship with General Gowon

Nigerian playwriter, poet, essayist, and noble award winner, Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde Soyinka, also known for short as Wole Soyinka, in a news report, has said he has nothing to forgive when speaking to newsmen about the relationship with former Head of state, General Yakubu Gowon.

Wole Soyinka was arrested by the General Yakubu Gowon’s government, for two years and four months, after he was accused of disrupting the normal process and was becoming very dangerous to the system. Soyinka was arrested in 1967, during the Nigerian Civil War.

According to Wole Soyinka, there is no bad blood between him and the former Head of states, as he has nothing to forgive, as they have been in communication and to him, ‘the war is over’.

“We communicate whenever possible, he came for my birthday in Abeokuta. When he started to apologize- he made a public apology- I said there is no need for it.” Wole Soyinka said.
