COVID-19: Kano State Could Be The Next Hotspot!!

According to the 2006 census, Kano state was recorded the most populated state in Nigeria. Taking us back to 2020, Kano state records the highest case of the Coronavirus in Nigeria as at 15th April, 2020.

According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Lagos-18, Kano-12, Katsina-2, Delta-1 and Niger-1 made up the new thirty-four cases of the COVID-19 in Nigeria.

As at 11:20 pm, there was a total confirmed case of 407 in the country, 128 have been discharged and a record of 12 deaths.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa of Kano state had earlier on Wednesday announced 5 cases on his official Twitter handle. Prior to this time, Kano had only 4 confirmed case which was seen as one of the lowest cases in the country but now, it’s the 4th highest case in the country after Lagos, FCT and Osun.Here Is The Summary From NCDC As of 15th April 2020:Lagos-232, FCT- 58, Osun- 20, Kano- 16, Edo- 15, Oyo- 11, Ogun- 9, Katsina- 7, Bauchi- 6 ,Kaduna- 6, and Akwa Ibom- 6. Others are Kwara- 4, Delta- 4, Ondo- 3, Enugu- 2, Ekiti- 2, Rivers-2, Niger- 2, Benue- 1 and Anambra- 1.

Kano could be the next lockdown state if the case continues to rise given it’s the highest populated state as of 2006 census so a lockdown would be necessary to curb any further spread of the Coronavirus. Just few days ago, the Northern Governors Forum had earlier said, that the North is not ready for a lockdown as most of its citizens are farmers and farming is their only source of income.
