Policemen are suppose to make sure citizens obeys the lockdown directives, but some Policemen have taken laws into their hands to either extort citizens or even harass them. A Police officer in Lagos has been arrested for allegedly taking bribe from a motorist in the Okota axis of the Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos as he was filmed collecting over N40,000 bribe.According to the Punch, the inspector whose name tag on is uniform is ‘Taloju Martins’ was seen counting N1000 notes said to be over 40 pieces as the money was paid by a motorist to free his vehicle after going against the lockdown directives in Lagos State.
The video that was posted by Nigerian musician, Michael Ugochukwu Stephens also known as Ruggedy Baba happened on Friday, April 10. The incident that was confirmed by Bala Elkana the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, told correspondent over the phone that the culprit has been arrested.
“We have seen the video and the inspector has been arrested. An investigation has commenced as he will be subjected to internal disciplinary proceeding known as Orderly Room Trial” Elkana said.
