INEC Says It Will Commence Electronic Voting By 2021.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced that the commission will commence electronic voting as from 2021.

He stated that the commencement of electronic voting will help curb human interference in the balloting process that has led to results being contested in courtrooms following allegations of widespread rigging.

INEC announced that it will adopt electronic platforms for the submission of nomination forms by political parties ahead of governorship elections billed to take place in Edo and Ondo state this year.

The commission also stated that it will not postpone the Edo and Ondo state gubernatorial elections that are to take place this year, despite the current covid-19 crisis. Adding that the commission will ensure that proper safety is procured.
