Father’s Day Turned Mourning Day, As Man Allegedly Killed His Son and Daughter in Anambra State

Just when others are celebrating father’s day, a 34-year-old Ifeanyi Apusiobi has allegedly killed his daughter and son in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Sunday which was supposed to bring joy to the people of Ogbunike, resulted to a day of mourning. Remember, father’s day is a day of honoring fatherhood and paternal bonds, as well as the influence of fathers in the society. It was also gathered that Ifeanyi also inflicted injuries on his father before neighbors rescued the 72-year-old grandpa.

A resident who spoke to newsmen said, “I can’t believe what happened. Maybe he is under the influence that made him do what he did. I can’t just say. It’s painful.”

Haruna Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the case said it happened around 1am. Haruna explained that Ifeanyi killed his children with a pestle, while they were asleep and also injured his 72-ear-old father on the head.

The children who were later rushed to the hospital, were pronounced dead on arrival but the grandfather is responding to treatment. It’s still yet unknown why Ifeanyi committed such an evil act, as investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of his actions.
