Burna Boy Comes Up Empty in All 7 Nominations at 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

Nigerian superstar Burna Boy faced a surprising setback at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, held at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on October 3, 2023, but only broadcast on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Despite being nominated for a total of seven prestigious awards, the Grammy-winning artist was unable to secure a victory in any category.

At the highly-anticipated event, Burna Boy was in contention for some of the top honors, including “Hip Hop Artist of the Year,” “Lyricist of the Year,” and “Best Live Performer of the Year.” However, he faced stiff competition and lost in all these categories to the acclaimed Kendrick Lamar.

The night proved to be a challenging one for Burna Boy, with additional losses in significant categories like “Hustler of the Year,” where he was bested by 50 Cent, and “Best Collaboration of the Year” for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World,’ which was claimed by Lil Durk and J. Cole’s ‘All My Life.’

Burna Boy’s other nominations, including Best Hip Hop Video for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ and Song of the Year, also went to other deserving artists.

These results have sparked disappointment and disbelief among some Nigerians who question the fairness of the outcome, as they firmly believe that Burna Boy, given his remarkable contributions to the music industry, should have secured at least one victory.
