See Tyla’s Joyful Response to Her Maiden Grammy Award Nomination.

South African Afropop sensation, Tyla, recently secured her inaugural Grammy Award nomination, marking a pivotal moment in her career. The Recording Academy unveiled the complete list of nominees for the 65th Grammy Awards, slated for February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Tyla earned her nomination in the distinguished ‘Best African Music Performance’ category.

Taking to social media to express her elation, Tyla shared a tweet exclaiming, ‘No Waysss.’ The 2024 GRAMMYs will witness the introduction of three new categories: Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording.

The journey of Tyla’s hit song, “Water,” has been remarkable. From its debut on the Billboard Hot 100 after gaining traction on TikTok to making history as the first solo track by a South African artist on the chart since jazz legend Hugh Masekela’s “Grazing in the Grass” 55 years ago, “Water” has achieved significant milestones.

Claiming the top spot on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, “Water” concluded the 58-week reign of Rema & Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down.” Tyla’s international success continued as she became the first South African artist to amass 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify, according to the African folder.

The introduction of the Best African Music Performance category has heightened the competition, with Tyla facing off against heavyweights like Burna Boy, Davido, Olamide, and others.
