“The Music Industry is Full of Pretenders” – Rema

Afrobeats artist Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has remarked that the Nigerian music industry is saturated with “pretenders.”

During the launch event for his second album, ‘He Is,’ in Lagos on Thursday night, the ‘Another Banger’ singer explained that the prevalence of inauthentic individuals in the Nigerian music scene inspired his song ‘Now I Know.’

Rema expressed, “The industry is full of pretenders. When people say they admire someone, it’s genuine. They’re not just seeking attention.”

He continued, “When someone stands out, it’s because they’ve recognized authenticity amid the chaos of the industry, which includes both genuine and fake people. That’s what ‘Now I Know’ is about. Now I know who is truly there for me. Those I once loved have become adversaries. Now I know who I can trust. Those I trusted have turned into enemies.”

Rema’s 11-track second album was released on Thursday via Mavin Records and features collaborations with Shallipopi and Odumodublvck.
