What’s The Difference? Social Distancing, Isolation & Quarantine.

With another 14-day lockdown imposed by the Government, because of the current COVID-19 peril. Hence the need for this awareness post to educate citizens for the need to self isolate themselves, maintain physical distancing, and also maintain personal hygiene to help prevent the spread of the disease.

In this piece we will be giving a clearer explanation on the different terms used during this period, these are Quarantine, Social Distancing and self isolation. We will be looking at their meanings and differences, to avoid the misuse of these words.

WHAT IS SOCIAL DISTANCING?

Physical or Social Distancing is a broad set of measures that includes avoiding handshakes, crowds, staying at least 2 metres (6 Feet) away from people, and most importantly staying at home if you feel sick.

Social distancing should be practiced by everyone, whether or not exposed to the virus.

WHAT IS ISOLATION?

Since a diagnosis of coronavirus triggers means it can be transferred to other people. Isolation is therefore very necessary for those who already sick and serves to keep the infected away from healthy people in order to stop the spread of the virus.

WHAT IS QUARANTINE?

Quarantine is a measure put on group of people or communities to seperate them and restrict the movement of people who were exposed to the contagious disease to see if they become sick.
