Several gifted Nigerian players have performed exceptionally across the top flight leagues in Europe. These players have been able to influence the leagues and make positive impact on the game.

For the sake of this article, we will however be taking a look at some Nigerian players who have performed wonderfully across Spanish top flight leagues (the La Liga & Segunda 2).

Although, not many Nigerian footballers have played in Spain, however, out of the few Super Eagles who played in the League came some wonderful players. Some Nigerian players who have plied their trade in the league include, Rasheed Yekini, Mutiu Adepoju, Odion Ighalo, Emmanuel Amuneke among others.

8. OBAFEMI MARTINS – 9 GOALS.

Nigerian forward, Obafemi Martins had an exceptional spell in Spain, despite playing for Levante for just one season, Martins finished the 2012/13 campaign as the team’s top scorer in all competitions with nine (9) goals. Scoring seven La Liga goals in 27 appearances for the team.

7. SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE – 16 GOALS

Samuel Chukwueze is a Nigerian winger who currently plays for Spanish League CLB, Villareal. Chukwueze joined Villarreal CF’s prolific youth setup in 2017, and made his senior debut with the reserves on 15 April 2018, coming on as a second-half substitute for Sergio Lozano in a 1–1 Segunda División B away draw against CE Sabadell FC.

Chukwueze has made 95 appearances for Villareal, and has scored a total of 16 goals in all competitions. He has however, netted 8 Laliga strikes.

6. ISAAC SUCCESS – 16 GOALS

Another Super Eagles player who had a wonderful stint in Spain, was Isaac Success. The Nigerian forward played for Granada in both the LaLiga and Segunda B division. Before playing with Malaga for one season.

Success made 85 match appearances in Spain, scoring just 16 goals in all competitions.

5. ODION IGHALO – 36 GOALS

Super Eagles Striker, Odion Ighalo arrived Spain in 2009 from Italy when he signed a loan deal with Granada. The former Super Eagles player scored 36 goals for Granada in all competitions.

4. FINIDI GEORGE – 43 GOALS

Former Nigerian Forward, Finidi George, seats at number four on our list of Top 8 All-Time Nigerian Goal Scorers In Spanish Leagues. The Ex-Super Eagles played for Spanish clubs, Real and Mallorca. Finidi had a total of 43 goals, in all competitions after making 175 appearances in Spain.

3. KALU UCHE – 54 GOALS

The Older of the Uche brothers, Kalu Uche had a decent career in Spain where he played for Almeria, Levante and Espanyol. Kalu scored 54 goals in all competitions while he played in Spain, making 231 appearances.

2. MUTIU ADEPOJU – 60 GOALS

Number two on our list of Top 8 All-Time Nigerian Goal Scorers In Spanish Leagues is former Super Eagles attacking midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju. Mutiu played as an attacking midfielder for Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and Racing Santander.

He made a total of 279 match appearances in Spain, and scored 60 goals in all competitions while playing in Spain.

1. IKECHUKWU UCHE – 121 GOALS

Ikechukwu Uche has been rated as one of the most impressive Nigerian player to have played in Spain. The Ex-Super Eagles forward spent most of his professional career in Spain, and played for Recreativo, Getafe, Zaragoza, Villarreal, Granada and Málaga.

Ikechukwu amassed La Liga totals of 194 matches and 42 goals during nine seasons.

However, Ikechukwu Uche made a total of 431 match appearances while playing in Spain, scoring 121 goals in all competitions.
