Buhari Approves Nigeria’s Suspension From International Basketball Competitions.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the the suspension of the nation’s basketball team from all international basketball competitions.

On Thursday, May 12th, 2022, the country’s minister of sports and youth development, Mr. Sunday Dare announced that the decision was taken by the government because of the ending crisis between the two factions of the Nigerian basketball committee.

The minister then urged all the stakeholders involved in the country’s basketball community as the government is looking to find a lasting solution to the crisis.

“Following the unending crisis which have plagued and nearly crippled the development of basketball in Nigeria, President Buhari has approved the withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for a period of two years. This is with immediate effect. This will also allow for the setting up of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the management and development of the domestic basketball leagues in Nigeria.”
