COVID-19: Rivers State To Begin Sharing of Food Items For The 23 Local Government Areas In The State

Strict measures was made for citizens to sit at home due to the Coronavirus pandemic but it has not been accepted by many as they feel the government should provide essential food commodities to enable the sit-at-home directives to work effectively and smoothly.

The Governor of Rivers State, Chief Bar. Nyesom Wike has promised people of the state that food supplies would be shared across all 23 local government areas to the less privileged in the state. This was coming after the Governor visited where relief materials for the states palliative programme was kept. According to the governor, he said, “Our intentions is to ensure that we mitigate the impact of the sit-at-home directive. We are going to set up a committee for the distribution of the food stuffs meant to serve as palliative for Rivers people”.

Governor Wike also went further to say, that the food stuff recovered from the Food bank would be shared to the less privileged and this is not the time to play politics. In his own words, the Governor said, “Nobody should play politics with the lives of people. Everybody has to make sacrifice to make sure everyone stays alive”.

The Governor also told newsmen that the state which has recorded just 1 case according to NCDC is still not 100% ready as isolation centers are still ongoing. He thanked churches for obeying the directives and measures made to ensure a possible spread of the Coronavirus is tackled.
