Driver of car that caused the death of Arotile to avoid death sentence as 2 others are freed

Early last month, Nigeria mourned the death of the first female combat pilot, Flying Officer, Tolulope Arotile, after she was hit by a vehicle driven by her ex-class mate.

Two of the three suspects arrested for causing the death of Arotile, has been set free by the Chief Magistrates’ court sitting in Kaduna state. Neheniah Adejor, who drove the car that Knocked down Arotile, will be charged with culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy but with a no death sentence.

Culpable homicide in some jurisdictions, is an act which has resulted in a person’s death but is held not to amount to murder.

According to gathered information’s, it was learnt that Folorunsho Igbekele Faith and Gbayegun Deji, the two other suspects were released as investigation did not find them culpable, even though they were in the vehicle that committed the action.

According to the legal advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecution, Bayero Dari, indicates that Arotile’s death was not premeditated, but there still evidence to prosecute Adejor, the driver of the vehicle. Adejor would be arraigned before the state High Court for culpable homicide, on September 3, 2020.
