ASUU Strike: Buhari Promises To Stick To Agreements With ASUU.

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the Academic Staff Union of Universities that the Federal Government will uphold current agreements (ASUU).

Beyond the deal, Buhari stated that the pact with ASUU was reached in order to avoid disruptive strikes, ensure uninterrupted academic programs, and secure educational funds.

The President made the vow on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving members of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), led by the co-chairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto, and Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

He praised NIREC’s leadership for intervening in ASUU’s year-long strike, stressing that no society which wishes itself well ignores its educational system and all of its constituent pieces.

Remember that ASUU members have vowed to renew their walkout due to alleged noncompliance with current agreements.

The Federal Government entered into majority of the agreements with tertiary-based unions under duress, according to Minister of State for Education Emeka Nwajiuba.
