Ijeoma Akunyili, first daughter of the late Dora Akunyili Elected to Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Board

Ijeoma Akunyili, the first daughter of the late Dora Akunyili, has been elected as an alumni board member of the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) in the US. She was named alongside eight others from various countries.

In January 2023, Ijeoma was appointed as the chief medical officer of the Jersey City Medical Center, an RWJ Barnabas Health facility in the US.

The Harvard Kennedy School announced that Ijeoma would begin her four-year term as an alumni board member on July 1. The board comprises 22 volunteer members, including 16 elected and six appointed members, who work to strengthen connections among HKS alumni globally.

The alumni board engages the global alumni community to champion the HKS mission, increase alumni engagement, and advise the dean on alumni perspectives. The board operates in close partnership with the alumni relations office and senior administrators at HKS.

Board members commit to a four-year term, attend two annual board meetings in Cambridge, MA, and actively participate in board initiatives and working committees. They also support HKS alumni events in their regions, contribute to the HKS fund, and recommend prospective students and job opportunities.

The school congratulated the newly elected board members and encouraged them to work towards enhancing alumni engagement and supporting the institution’s goals.
