COVID-19: North Cannot Be On Lockdown- Northern Governors

The Coronavirus pandemic has caused total lockdown to some states in Nigeria (an additional 14 days on Lagos, FCT and Osun) as the Federal Government seeks for a solution to curb the current COVID-19 pandemic. According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, eleven new cases have been reported in Lagos making 373 total confirmed case, 99 discharged and 11 death so far. Lagos state (214 cases), FCT (58 cases) and Osun state (20 cases) still remains the highest record case in the country.

According to reports, the Northern State Governors’ Forum met on Monday to discuss the impact of the Coronavirus in the region. The meeting was conducted via teleconference as a measure was discussed. The governors resolved to strengthen preventive measures against the pandemic through enhancing boundary controls and surveillance as a total lockdown of the region will come at high cost as so many of the citizens in the northern region are farmers who need to go to the farm.

According to the Punch, the Northern governors also lamented that the region has no testing centre which is very disturbing as the Coronavirus cases keeps increasing.
