Over 602 repentant Boko Haram insurgents take oath of allegiance – Nigeria Defence Headquarters

Captured Boko Haram members have sworn an Oath of Allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as a total number of 602 repentant insurgents, dropped renounced their membership to terrorist group.

The statement which was issued by the Defence Headquarters, said the 602 repentant members, had undergone the de-radicalization, rehabilitation and re-integration programme of the Operation Safe Corridor, which was disclosed in a conference held in Abuja on Thursday.

Major General John Enenche, the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, said the ex-insurgents took the oath in the presence of 11-member quasi-judicial panel, and as such, if they commit any other offence or return to their old ways, they stand the chance to forfeit all privileges.

“The implication is that at the end of the programme, if they commit any offence, they stand a chance to forfeit all privileges and will be liable for offence against the state.” Eneche said.

Eneche also said, over 822 ex-insurgents had graduated from the programme and are doing well but refused to mention the number of high-risk insurgents involved in the current de-radicalization, as he claimed such as information is classified.

In your own opinion, do you think this supposed repentant Boko Haram members should be given a second chance?
