#EndSARS: “I’m Happy To Finally Witness That The Youths Have Woken”- Wole Soyinka Reveals

Nigerian playwright, poet, essayist in English Language and award Nobel Prize winner in Literature, Akinwande Oluwole Babatunde Soyinka, known as Wole Soyinka has taken his time to expatiate on the happenings and elaborated on the #EndSARS peaceful protest by the Nigerian youths.

Soyinka who spoke in support of the youths, said he was indeed happy to witness and watch youths begin to take their future into their own hands. Soyinka explained in details, the fear of the youths, how state security harassed and transported thugs to break up the protest and also how vehicles of peaceful protesters where set on fire just to break the unit of the group.

The #EndSARS peaceful protest was not just for the youths on our streets, but it carried everyone alone from members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Feminist Groups, Professionals, Technocrats, Students, Prelates, Industrial institutions, and Artistes. The movement demanded an end to police brutality, harassment, unlawful arrest, alleged killings and total reformation of the Nigerian government.

The #EndSARS protest will forever be remembered in Nigerian history as a time the youths decided to take the bull by the horn. It’s still too early to acknowledge if it brought a positive result or not.
