Nigerian human rights activist, pro-democracy campaigner, former presidential candidate, and founder of an online news agency Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, is trending on social media for being allegedly arrested on the first day of 2021, by the Nigerian police.
According to reactions from social media users #FreeSowore, the reason for the arrest is still unknown to Nigerians, but going through some of his last social media activities, it seems his tweet was connected to his alleged arrest.
Sowore took to his official social media handle (Twitter) to ask his followers if they are in for a Crossover protest, and if come, they should bring candles and placard showing their grievance, as the supposed protest was to hold by 11:30 pm.
“How about a CrossOver Protest/Uprising tonight? Anyone willing to participate? Pick up a candle and a placard showing your grievances against the regime, let’s upload our short videos and photos across our SOcial Media platforms. Let’s welcome the regime to a RESOLUTE 2021!
“We have a volunteer looking for those willing to go with him to Lagos Lekki Toll Gate for a #CrossoverWithProtest candlelight action starting from 11:30pm, DM if you wanna join!” Sowore tweeted.
Do you think this might be the main reason, or one of the reason why he was arrested? Remember their was an alleged ban on Crossover gatherings in Lagos state, due to the increase and second wave of the pandemic.
