Police PRO Reacts, As She Claimed ‘Police Not Involved’ In The Mother & Child Accident In Warri

During the early hours of Wednesday 20th, 2021, there was an alleged report of a police Hilux patrol vehicle chasing suspected internet fraudsters, also known as ‘yahoo boys’, as it was reported that the police Hilux lost control and crushed a mother and her daughter to death who were on a tricycle (also known as keke).

The incidence which happened at PTI Junction in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State caused a pandemonium in the area, as it was gathered that an angry mob burnt the vehicle of the police and both mother and daughter died on the spot while other passengers had minor injuries.

The Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has since condoled with the family of the deceased on their loss, as he ordered an immediate investigation on the death of the woman and her daughter. Governor Okowa, also called on youths and people of the state to remain calm and allow the law to take action.

According to reports from the Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, she said the police were not involved in the incident that led to the death of the mother and her child after she was contacted by newsmen.

“Police not involved in the unfortunate incident. The accident involved a Mercedes tipper loaded with granite, a Toyota Camry car, and a tricycle, as all vehicles where moving in the same direction and a police vehicle was never involved.” She said.
