Xavi Explains Barcelona’s Loss to Shakhtar Donetsk in Champions League

Barcelona’s head coach, Xavi Hernandez, has provided insight into the reasons behind his team’s 1-0 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk in their recent Champions League clash.

During the match, Xavi witnessed a first-half goal by Danylo Sikan that secured a victory for Shakhtar Donetsk at Volksparkstadion. Barcelona, on the other hand, managed only one shot on target compared to Shakhtar Donetsk’s four.

In his post-game reaction, Xavi acknowledged that Barcelona’s performance against the host was subpar. He pointed out that his team had made a significant mistake in their approach against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Speaking to the media, Xavi expressed, “We did not deliver a good performance. Nothing went according to plan. Our intention was to secure our qualification, but we experienced a clear setback. The Champions League demands the highest level, but we fell short. We are disappointed.”

He continued, “We couldn’t afford to fail, yet we did. It’s a significant error on our part.”

Despite the loss, Barcelona maintains its position at the top of Group H with nine points from four matches in the Champions League.
